Babydoll Southdown Sheep
Babydoll Southdown Sheep also known as Olde English Babydoll Southdown Sheep are a heritage breed hailing from England. They are one of the oldest British breeds; standardized in the late 1700s and brought to the United Sates in 1803. The breed actually almost became extinct after World War II as the demand for larger meat cuts became higher and their smaller stature did not fit that need. Thankfully, dedicated shepherds worked hard to salvage the breed from being lost.
We chose to add these adorable little sheep to our ranch as they are incredibly friendly and sweet and a smaller breed that could live well alongside our Shetlands. Babydolls are easy to handle and they are known for, among other things, their smiling, woolly "teddybear" faces. They are often used for weeding and as companion animals and their fine wool is prized by hand spinners. Our Babydolls are registered with the North American Babydoll Southdown Sheep Association and Registry (NABSSAR).
